The Shin Nippon Bujutsu Kenkyū Kai (真日本武術研究会) association has the distinct privilege of presenting a performance that combines Noh dance and Kenjutsu (the art of the sword)—two pillars of samurai culture. This event is part of the 2026 “Autumn of Japanese Culture” program and is produced by the Cercle Suisse Japon association.
The performance, titled “Between the Art of the Sword and Noh” (武と舞の夕べ), will explore the connections and similarities between the techniques and disciplines of these two art forms. The Noh dance will be accompanied by flute solos—specifically Claude Debussy’s “Syrinx” and “Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune”—creating an unexpected fusion of Japanese and Western cultures.
The event will take place at the Grande Salle de la Paroisse de Villamont (Av. Villamont 13, 1005 Lausanne), starting at 7:30 PM.
Artists and Contributors
Masato MATSUURA
Masato MATSUURA, born in Japan, began training in Judo and Karate at an early age..
He is an *uchi-deshi* (direct disciple) of Master Tetsunojō Kanze VIII in the art of Noh. To further deepen his practice, he trained in the Ittō-ryū school of swordsmanship, *kenjutsu*, and modern *kendō* (*gendai-kendō*), achieving the rank of 4th Dan.
The aggressive nature of these techniques led him to seek a different path—one that would allow him to work without damaging his body. His dual background in performing arts and martial arts enables him to explore the essence of movement and a form of physical expression rooted in a profound awareness of fluidity—the foundation of traditional Japanese theater—thereby uniting the arts of song, weaponry, text, and dance.
Based in Paris since 2006, he maintains a prolific career as both a performer and an instructor. He is frequently invited to prestigious international cultural events, traveling extensively to showcase the great diversity and depth of his art.
Isabel Lerchmüller
Isabel Lerchmüller trained in transverse flute at the Bern University of the Arts and the Basel Academy of Music, earning degrees in classical music and improvisation. She also undertook studies in jazz.
She has mastered various types of the Japanese *shakuhachi* flute, honing her skills through extended periods of study and cultural immersion in Japan.
There, she earned several accolades and gained recognition from top *shakuhachi* masters, who bestowed upon her the title of Unjaku-Ryūgen (雲雀瑠玄).
Based in Bern, she is active as an ensemble musician, soloist, and teacher.
Shin Nippon Bujutsu Kenkyū Kai – 真日本武術研究会
The Shin Nippon Bujutsu Kenkyū Kai (真日本武術研究会) Association aims to preserve and develop Japanese martial arts, along with their associated cultural, artisanal, historical, and philosophical dimensions.
Its activities focus primarily on the study and transmission of the art of handling the *katana*—the traditional Japanese sword—through the practice of the Ryūshin Shōchi Ryū (柳心照智流) school.
The roots of this tradition date back to the 16th century. The Association thus carries on a martial and cultural legacy that has been passed down from generation to generation for nearly five centuries.
Instruction within the Association is primarily led by Yoshinori SENUMA—an instructor appointed by the school’s Grand Master—as well as by the school’s chief instructor.
