Wabu logo

The Shin Nippon Bujutsu Kenkyū Kai (真日本武術研究会) association had the privilege of being invited to the Syna union’s year-end celebration to present a Ryūshin Shōchi Ryū (柳心昭智流) demonstration. Syna, which has nearly 60,000 members, is based on democratic principles, social ethics, and fair social partnership. This event showcased the intercultural diversity and social richness of all involved.

Dozens of people had the opportunity to discover and learn the art of katana wielding in the Ryūshin Shōchi style during a one-hour session on Saturday, December 13, 2025. A demonstration combined techniques, including waza (sword techniques) in the form of kata and kumitachi, as well as an introductory session with the public, and a historical overview of the period to which the origins of Ryūshin Shōchi Ryū date back. A brief description of samurai and high-ranking female warriors (女武将) from the Heian period onward was also presented.

It was a wonderful encounter between two organizations that, despite their differences, share common ground. Feedback from both sides was very positive.

Beginning of the demonstration: respect to the entire Ryūshin Shōchi Ryū lineage.

Initiation at Lausanne sur Mer, Lausanne, Aug-2025 | 2nd session

The Shin Nippon Bujutsu Kenkyū Kai (真日本武術研究会) association had the privilege of being invited to Lausanne sur mer in August after a first and appreciated session in July, to introduce young and less young to the art of katana wielding. Lausanne sur mer is a not-to-be-missed event on the shores of Lake Geneva, which takes place throughout the summer school vacations. For this 2025 edition, over 80 activities were on offer, open to children and adults alike. Everyone is welcome, whatever their origin, age, gender, orientation or abilities. Our association was able to initiate more than 12 people on Wednesday evening, August 13, and interest many other curious people.

This event would not have been possible without the support of the City of Lausanne, the Fondation pour l’animation socioculturelle lausannoise (FASL) and the entire team in the field. It highlights the spirit and richness of the City of Lausanne, from a sporting, cultural and social point of view.

Seminar and workshop at the Villamont School, Lausanne, Feb-2025

Wabu logo

The Shin Nippon Bujutsu Kenkyū Kai (真日本武術研究会) association had the privilege of being invited by the Villamont Primary and Secondary School (Lausanne) for an overview of the theme of samurai. In particular, the evolution of the status and definition of the term “samurai” throughout its history, as well as the place of women in the military hierarchy up to the Edo period were discussed. A selection of students were able to attend the conference and learn the art of wielding the katana.

This event could not have taken place without the support of the school’s director, Mrs. Guinand, and the unwavering dedication of the teacher Mrs. Jaquier and her colleague to the students. “History does not necessarily have to be taught in a rigid ex cathedra format, it can be analyzed and experienced differently.” This establishment is the ambassador of the interculturality of the city of Lausanne and advantageously highlights the spirit and cultural wealth of the City of Lausanne, both on a cultural and social level.

From the first seconds, a hand goes up and many, many questions.

After the seminar, sitting on the benches, it’s time for the workshop to try your hand at handling the katana!

And we cut the target. Bravo!

The instructions are parsimonious, but sometimes difficult to assimilate. The students do brilliantly!

Our Association had the honor of demonstrating its art over a one-hour slot. After a demonstration of Ryūshin Shōchi Ryū, including waza in the form of kata and kumitachi, a workshop for the public was organized.

Unlike previous editions, the party was held indoors, in a converted former building, the Espace Amaretto. The organizing committee was well inspired, as on this particular day, it rained all day long. Unless I’m mistaken, the building was used as a hangar, in connection with rail freight.

A little interview before the demonstration.

A very… industrial hall filled with sound equipment, and the moderator asking question after question.

Léolia, 14 years old, extremely concentrated in front of a crowd full of spectators, including parents…

The workshop after the demonstration took place in a good mood and respect. Very young children, and almost adult children. Perfect!
